The Yamaha DTX900M Drum Module includes famous drum sounds from throughout the history of drumming, including drums and cymbals from different manufacturers. Each sound is a sample of a real drum or cymbal, so they don’t rely on heavy ambience processing in order to sound authentic.
The incorporation of Xpanded Articulation technology from the MOTIF series creates subtly different sample sounds. This means you will experience more natural snare rolls and can accurately recreate the feel of a hi-hat or ride cymbal to the finest detail. You also get a collection of highly expressive world percussion instruments and electronic sounds.
With 512MB of onboard sampling memory, you can also import samples via a USB memory device right out of the box. The DTX900M allows you to record and upload new sounds and assign them to the pads. This allows you to stay current with musical trends and take advantage of the many drum libraries available, without needing a computer on stage. Loading new sounds onto the module provides the casual electronic drummer with fresh new tones to play with. An advanced user can further tweak these voices, using the voice, pad, and effects settings.
The DTX900M has a range of effects to allow you to produce your very own custom sound. The reverb effect has presets from the legendary SPX2000, and allows you to change the ambience of the sound. The chorus feature allows you to add a chorus effect, as well as other traditional effects such as temp-based delays, phasers, and flangers. The variation block can be routed as either a send or insert effect. This allows you to recreate buss-compression – a studio technique where compressed sounds are mixed with the dry signal to add punch without squashing the entire expressiveness of the performance.
Experiment with all of the individual effects and EQs for each drum and include the master effect and master EQ to provide a killer sounding drum track – perfect for live performances and studio recordings.
The DTX900M includes extra features that us drummers can really appreciate. For example, there are 50 preset kits plus 50 user kits onboard. You can also use a USB memory device to hold 1,584 additional user kits for instant recall. There are also 64 programmable “chains” that store 64 steps each, allowing you to create set lists and tempo maps for all of your performance and practice needs. Whether you need to layer, stack or alternate multiple sounds on any pad; assign user grooves to one pad and tap tempo with another or automatically load your samples on power-up, the DTX900M has professional features not found in any other model.
With the real-time control knob, you can adjust the virtual snares and tighten up the sound, or loosen them all the way. This essentially offers a digital throw-off, allowing you to quickly change the timbre of your snare effortlessly. You can also use your creativity and assign throw-off Voices to have a completely new set of snare sounds or effect settings.
The DTX900M includes USB “to host” connectivity so that you can easily connect to a computer using a single USB cable. You also get Cubase AI -- a DAW software application from Steinberg that allows you to record, edit, and produce music from a Mac or PC. By downloading the free DTX900M Extension, you can use the front panel controls of the trigger module to control Cubase when connected via USB, allowing you to make music more efficiently. With the USB “device” port, MIDI and audio information created on the computer can be freely exchanged with the DTX900M for even more creative potential.
