The Cherry Audio Memorymode 2 is a plugin emulation of one of the most famous 80’s programmable polysynths. A complete overhaul of the previous version, Memorymode 2 uses advanced modelling and emulation techniques to deliver the most accurate Memorymoog-style plugins ever made. Rather than simply recreating the Memorymoog architecture, Memorymode 2 gives you considerably more scope for movement and hands-on control. This dual-layer virtual analogue synth is the perfect solution producers wanting detailed vintage-style polyphonic sounds. Inspired by the Memorymoog, its updated analogue modelling delivers greater oscillator and filter detail, with more accurate envelope behaviour for carefully shaped patches. Two independent 16-voice layers can be combined or split within one preset, and each includes three oscillators per voice for building rich, layered sounds.
Its filter offers switchable 12dB and 24dB-per-octave responses, alongside resonance compensation and a modern setting designed for fuller lows and brighter highs. For more organic variation, Multi-Voice mode can alter pitch, panning, filtering, and envelope parameters between notes. MPE, velocity, channel and polyphonic aftertouch, plus four touch-oriented modulation lanes, give you plenty of options for expressive performance and automation, and with over 800 presets, including recreations of the original Memorymoog factory patches, there’s a world of sounds to discover with Memorymode 2!

Memorymode 2 places two independent 16-voice synthesizer layers inside each preset, giving you plenty of room for splits and stacked sounds without loading separate instruments. Each layer has its own three-oscillator voice engine, modulation facilities, arpeggiator, polyphonic sequencer, and effects chain. Unison stacking can expand this further with up to 48 voices per layer, helping you construct dense pads, leads, and other heavily layered patches. Despite the expanded architecture, the engine has been CPU-optimised, making its additional synthesis capabilities easier to incorporate into production sessions.
Updated analogue modelling brings increased depth and detail to Memorymode 2's oscillators and filter while improving envelope accuracy. Its transistor-ladder-style filter can operate at either 12dB or 24dB per octave, giving you two responses for shaping harmonically rich patches. An optional emphasis compensation setting helps maintain level as resonance is applied. There’s also a modern filter setting, which extends the design with richer low frequencies and more sparkling highs. Together, these options let you work towards the character of the original hardware or push its familiar architecture into more contemporary territory.
Onboard “Analogue drift” simulation helps introduce natural movement, while Multi-Voice mode can create note-by-note differences across pitch, panning, filtering, and envelope parameters. These variations can range from subtle to much more pronounced, giving sustained chords and layered patches extra movement. Performance control is similarly flexible, with velocity, channel aftertouch, polyphonic aftertouch, and MPE support. Four touch-oriented modulation lanes provide over 50 routing possibilities, while the Touch Animator connects expressive automation to the four touch controls. This gives you several ways to introduce evolving modulation without relying solely on conventional envelopes and static parameter settings.
